Unhealthy teeth come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but these are three common signs of unhealthy teeth that you can spot at home. If you notice any of these warning signs of unhealthy teeth, contact your dentist right away.

Translucent Teeth

Normal teeth are slightly translucent, but some people have noticed that the edges of their teeth are nearly see-through. The appearance of translucent teeth is a likely sign that your teeth have had an increased exposure to acid, whether  from your diet or from stomach issues like acid reflex and morning sickness in pregnant women. If you have noticed your teeth becoming  transparent around the edges, it is wise to see your dentist.

White Patches on Teeth

Sometimes you’ll notice that parts of your teeth are a different shade of white than the rest. If you have noticed matte white patches forming on your teeth, this is the first sign of tooth decay. At this point the decay has affected only the enamel of your teeth and there is still hope for reversal.Make sure you cut out sugar and are brushing and flossing the recommended daily amount, and give your dentist a call to help get your teeth healthy again.

Yellow or Brown Teeth

One of the most common signs of unhealthy teeth are teeth that have become yellow or brown. Some people are born with yellow-tinted teeth, but if you’ve noticed that your teeth have yellowed over time, this is not the case. If you drink fluids like coffee and red wine but maintain healthy brushing and flossing habits, it is likely that this is just external staining and can be removed with proper whitening treatments.

If you smoke or drink soda often, you may notice that your yellow teeth are accompanied by brown stains around your gum line. This is due to tar from tobacco and severe acid erosion from soda. In fact, heavy soda drinkers have been shown to have oral health similar to that of meth addicts.

Regardless of the cause, if you have teeth that have yellowed over time, visit your dentist to see which treatment is right for you.
