The American Dental Association (ADA) is the country’s largest dental association with more than 159,000 dentist members. The ADA, a member-run organization, provides oral health related information for dentists and their patients.

From the Seal of Acceptance program to the MouthHealthy site, the ADA provides you with great dental health resources.

ADA Seal of Acceptance

The ADA Seal of Acceptance program is incredibly helpful when purchasing dental products. When you are shopping for toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, or dental floss, make sure the product has the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The Seal ensures:

  • The product is thoroughly tested
  • The product is safe and effective
  • The claims made on the packaging are valid

This program is completely voluntary and a company must reapply for the Seal every 5 years.

Part of the ADA’s site, MouthHealthy is a website built for consumers like you and me. The site includes dental information and advice for specific age groups and situations, including:

  • Pregnancy
  • Babies and Kids
  • Teens
  • Adults Under 40
  • Adults 40 – 60
  • Adults Over 60

Along with information most relevant to each age group and situation, the site also provides nutritional advice to keep your teeth healthy and strong.

Another one of the organization’s websites, 2min2x provides resources for parents to help their children brush twice a day for two minutes during each session. The site provides:

  • A general timeline for children’s teeth
  • Tips for teaching children how to brush their teeth
  • Information about visiting the dentist with your child
  • Tips for teaching children how to floss
  • Information about including fluoride in your child’s dental routine

Fluoride helps remineralize and strengthen tooth enamel that’s been worn down by harmful acid. Fluoride is incredibly important for dental health, especially for children.

Before a child’s teeth erupt through their gums, fluoride helps strengthen the teeth, making them more resistant to decay. After children’s teeth come in, fluoride helps rebuild enamel that has been damaged. All toothpastes with the ADA Seal contain fluoride.

ADA Find-A-Dentist

Within the MouthHealthy site, the Find-A-Dentist tool allows you to search for dentists in your area who are members of the ADA.

The dentists who are members of the ADA have access to current dental information and resources, including studies and research on topics relevant to oral health.

In order to be an ADA member, dentists make a pledge to:

  • Respect a patient’s wants and needs
  • Do no harm
  • Do good
  • Be fair
  • Be truthful

Members also make a professional promise to put your health and well-being first, the main focus of Dr. Jue.
