- Sticky candy. Taffy, bubble gum, and gummy candies can bend brackets and wires. Any food that can pull on your braces should be avoided.
- Hard foods. You can easily loosen a bracket if you bite into whole apples or carrots with your front teeth. Instead, cut hard foods up and chew with your molars.
- Ice. Chewing on ice, with or without braces, wears down the enamel of your teeth. However, with an orthodontic appliance, ice can be particularly harmful.
