Invisalign oral aligners are a series of clear, removable oral appliances that fit snugly over the surfaces of your teeth. The aligner’s unique design is FDA-approved and addresses alignment issues like gaps, underbites, or overbites.
Invisalign aligners are much more comfortable than traditional braces and feature no brackets, wires, or rubber bands. They’re also ideal for people with allergies because they contain no BPS, BPA, latex, or gluten.
Dr. Jue usually recommends Invisalign aligners for adults and teenagers with mild or moderate orthodontic issues. Invisalign aligners are comfortable and discreet, but they can’t address every type of problem. More complex issues like crossbites or overcrowding may require traditional braces, extractions, or a combination of treatments.
In addition, Invisalign aligners typically aren’t recommended for kids under 14. Growing teeth and jaws can complicate treatment and many young children aren’t mature enough to clean and care for their aligners.
Getting your first set of Invisalign aligners takes two separate appointments.
At your first appointment, Dr. Jue takes an impression of your teeth and discusses your goals for orthodontic treatment. He then sends this information to a laboratory which manufacturers your oral aligners.
About a week later, you return to the office for your second appointment. Dr. Jue inserts your first set of Invisalign aligners, ensuring they fit comfortably. After placing your aligners, you’ll be asked to wear them for 20-22 hours each day.
To continue your orthodontic progress, you’ll return to the office every four to six weeks for a new set of aligners. Most people see a noticeable improvement in their smile in two to three months, with total treatment time averaging one year.
Invisalign treatment is almost entirely pain-free. You may experience slight pressure or mild discomfort when adjusting to a new set of aligners, but any pain should subside within 24-48 hours. Because wires aren’t involved, there’s no risk of cuts, scrapes, or bruising either.
Cleaning your Invisalign aligners is easy. Simply rinse them in cold water after eating and gently brush them with toothpaste at least once each day. For more thorough cleanings, ask Dr. Jue about the Invisalign Cleaning System.
